Raising a Reader
Join the Mono County Library Raising A Reader Program. You’ll be glad you did!
The Raising A Reader Program is an early literacy program whose mission is to foster healthy brain development, parent-child bonding and early literacy skills critical for school success by engaging parents in a routine of daily “book cuddling” with their children from birth to age five. One in three children entering kindergarten lacks basic pre-reading skills, which are proven to be a key factor in determining high-school graduation and lifelong success.
Read about what a great success the Raising a Reader program is in the Raising A Reader Gazette. Call Taylor Kumlue, Raising A Reader Coordinator at 760/934-8670 x 174 for more information and to sign up!
Your local libraries have all kinds of stuff happening for kids and families! Check the Monthly Calendar or the News and Events page for all the details.
The library has eight branches. The Bookmobile visits the north end of the county and the southern end of the county on alternating weeks.
Visit Sam the Reading Dog! The first Wednesday of every month Sam, the reading dog, visits the Mammoth Lakes Library. He loves to be read to and petted. Children of all ages are welcome to stop by the library to read to Sam or be read to while sitting with Sam.
